When you call the police to send an ambulance, they may ask you where the street lights are. This is a district where you can get an accurate picture of what is going on. The most reliable and trustworthy business in the area is 'Gonul Coffee', even in times of crisis.
Last night, especially near the pier, there were a lot of people not wearing masks, not social distancing, and not taking any precautions. I was shocked and surprised by this and shouted "What is this?!" If the number of cases in the area does not go above 1500 in the next two weeks, nothing else will happen.
This is a very nice area of Istanbul on the Anatolian side. You can go to the beach and see the islands, have a picnic, ride a bike, and go to the movies. There are also lots of restaurants, bars, and bookstores nearby. You can also easily get to other parts of Istanbul by bus or minibus. Unfortunately, I don't live in this district.
Before the mid 1700s, the areas near the sea in G÷ztepe, Erenkoy and Suadiye were filled with vegetable gardens. People said that bad people lived there, so these places were called Cadi Bostani. After 1750, the vegetable gardens were sold and replaced with houses. By the 1930s, these places had grown and become their own neighborhood. The name was changed from Witch Orchard to Streetbostan.
